Cataract Surgery Recovery

At Haider Eye Care, we perform cataract removal in-house. Our cataract doctor, Dr. Ali Haider and his team will explain the procedure and answer any questions that patients may have. Avoid the stressful referral process and get treatment faster while avoiding hospital fees.

Since the patient will remain awake during the procedure, we numb the eye to prevent discomfort. Using a specialized microscope and small medical tools, we carefully make tiny incisions to remove the natural lens and replace it with the intraocular lens.

After the procedure, we require patients to rest in our recovery area for about 30 minutes. We will let patients know when they can go home. At Haider Eye Care, we take patient care very seriously. Patients should arrange for someone to pick them up after the procedure. We recommend that patients avoid activities that could cause eye strain until the eye has completely healed.

We will provide patients with recovery care instructions and will schedule patients for a follow-up visit at our Louisville cataract surgery or Elizabethtown eye care locations. Patients can contact us at any time concerning recovery care.

During follow-up visits, our cornea specialist in Louisville will conduct another series of eye exams and vision tests to determine how well the patient is recovering. Dr. Haider and his team will also give patients a timeline for when they can safely resume certain daily activities.

In some cases, blurriness or double vision may return when the posterior capsule, a thin membrane that holds the eye lens in place, becomes cloudy. To reduce cloudiness and other cataract symptoms, we may recommend a second surgery, posterior capsular opacification (PCO). During this procedure, we will use special equipment to create an opening in the posterior capsule to help reduce cloudiness.

Annual eye exams help our patients retain much of their vision before and after surgery.
