Cataract Treatment Options
Cataracts occur when proteins in the eye’s natural lens break down, causing the lens to become cloudy. We highly encourage patients to make an appointment with our cornea specialist if they experience one or more of these symptoms:
Blurry vision
Double vision
Loss of night vision
Increased light sensitivity
Dulling, fading or yellowing of bright colors
Without proper care and treatment, cataract symptoms will worsen over time. And while many patients can live with the minimal effects of cataracts early on, eventually, patients will require eye surgery to continue participating in daily events such as driving, reading, sports and other hobbies. Eye lens replacement remains the only permanent solution for treating cataracts. Cataract removal involves removing the natural eye lens and replacing it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). With regular eye exams, patients should be able to resume activities without issue.
